| The Nevada State Museum actively engages diverse audiences in understanding and celebrating Nevada's natural and cultural heritage. The museum collects, preserves, and studies this heritage and shares it through exhibits, educational programs, publications, and research. Exhibits highlight the state's natural history, history, a replica walk-through mine and ghost town, the historic Carson City Mint, and the U.S.S. Nevada silver service. The award-winning "Under One Sky" exhibit explores Nevada's Native American heritage. Visitors are welcome from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. | The rich railroading heritage of northern Nevada lives at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. An extraordinary collection of railroad equipment, artifacts, and related exhibits portray how the railroad transformed a hostile territory into an essential contributor to the growing nation. Visitors may enjoy rides aboard restored vintage railroad equipment on weekends from May through September. The museum also hosts a number of special events on selected holiday weekends throughout the year.
The museum is open every day from 8:30 to 4:30 with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. Admission rates are $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for senior citizens, children under the age of 18 are free. The Nevada State Railroad Museum is one of seven museums operated within the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs.

The Gatekeeper’s Museum is a reconstruction of the original Gatekeeper’s Cabin home of the water master who controlled the flow of water out of Lake Tahoe. It now showcases Tahoe history, from its Native inhabitants through the logging era and the establishment of the tourism industry at Lake Tahoe. Exhibits include Native American baskets in the Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum, resort memorabilia, historical photographs, clothing, oral histories, maps, archival documents, newspapers and artifacts.
The Watson Cabin Museum still stands on the original site in Tahoe City where it was completed in 1909, and remains an outstanding example of turn-of-the-century construction. |

The Thunderbird Lodge is one of the last and best examples of a great residential estate on Lake Tahoe from the period in which prominent San Francisco society built homes on the lake. In addition to the main house, there is a Card House, Caretaker's Cottage, the Cook/Butler's House, an elephant garage, the Admiral's House, the Boathouse with adjoining 600' tunnel, and Gatehouse.

| The Nevada Museum of Art, Donald W. Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts, E. L. Wiegand Gallery provides a forum for the presentation of creative ideas. The Nevada Museum of Art's focus on its collections, education, and outreach are means to conserve, convey, and expand artistic knowledge. Built in May, 2003, the Nevada Museum of Art is a four level, 60,000 square-foot building designed by internationally renowned architect Will Bruder and inspired by unique geological formations of the Black Rock Desert. The museum has gallery space for major exhibitions, a multimedia theater, the E.L. Cord Museum School, The Museum Store, dining in Café Musée and two sculpture galleries. The Nevada Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm, and Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm. The Nevada Museum of Art is closed Mondays and national holidays.
