Thunderbird Lake Tahoe inspires appreciation and understanding of Lake Tahoe’s cultural heritage through preservation of regional treasures including the George Whittell Estate, Thunderbird Lodge, and Thunderbird yacht.   Built in 1936 by the late bon vivant, Captain George Whittell Jr., Thunderbird Lodge is open by appointment for public, private, and group tours.  In addition to community education and conservation programs, the George Whittell Estate hosts summertime wine and food festivals, weddings and family events, executive and corporate functions, and is home to the Castle Club, an elite group of preservation-minded families, foundations, businesses dedicated to saving Lake Tahoe’s art, history, and environment.
