The Nevada Museum Association Board has put together a great conference for 2011.
National organizations are adjusting conferences to accommodate economic realities. Increasing costs, the loss of travel budgets, less staff time for training, and tighter personal spending are forcing changes in how conferences are conducted.
This year's NMA conference follows this trend. Nevada museums still struggle with the sluggish economy. Some members can't afford use of personal funds to pay conference expenses. Given our expansive state, conferences are usually attended only by those closest to the meeting location.
As a way to save NMA members money and to increase accessibility, the board will hold two condensed and concurrent north and south conferences, linked together by a "creative connection." Don't be fooled, not all programs will be teleconferenced such as the hands-on workshops, webinar and raffle.
We are excited to see how this new format works so we will be asking our members for honest opinions on what worked and how we can continue to provide pertinant topics to the NMA community.
